COP26 climate pledges could slow warming to 1.8°C by 2100
The International Energy Agency (IEA) keeps a close eye on global efforts to reach net zero emissions and its latest report gives cause for some optimism.
Under the business-as-usual scenario, the planet was on course for a catastrophic global temperature rise of 2.6°C. However, additional net zero pledges announced at COP26 could help keep global temperatures below the Paris Agreement’s upper limit of 2°C above pre-industrial levels.
